A few years ago, I tracked down a copy of the music for that very pretty waltz choreographed by John Hertz. I sampled the music from cassette, cleaned up a good deal of the noise, and compressed the result in MP3 format. The file size is less than one megabyte. If you download it, please send me a note so that I know my time was well spent. Feel free to link to this page from your own web site.

The musicians who recorded this performance are unknown. download congress.mp3 / stream it download an Ogg Vorbis version / stream it (MP3 players are listed here, and Ogg Vorbis players are listed here.) Commercial recordings of the Congress are now available, one from the Brassworks band and another from the Bangers and Mash band. The dance is a modern creation, inspired by dances from Regency England, and has become very popular in vintage dance circles throughout California. If you're interested in learning it, I suggest contacting the Friends of the English Regency (southern California) or attending one of the Gaskell Ball classes (northern California).
